Apple September Event: iPhone 16, Apple Watch 10, AirPods 4 and more

Apple announced their fall product launch date and title. The “Glowtime” event on September 9 at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters will likely unveil the iPhone 16 series and highlight AI.

Apple’s event may be the largest in years. Apple Watch Series 10 (or Apple Watch X) and AirPods 4 may be revealed alongside the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, which are anticipated to release on September 20.

Apple Intelligence and its promised features are the other significant news. That includes a huge Siri update with a new luminous animation that may have inspired the event name. Apple September event details are here.

Apple September event: Latest news (Update Sept 3)

The iPhone 16 may be Apple’s most contentious. We explain why.

The AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3 are expected to debut during Apple’s Glowtime event. Stay updated on iPhone 16 camera rumors and leaks.

When is the Apple September event 2024?

September 9, 2024 is the date for the Apple September event 2024. Press and customers received invitations by email two weeks before the event, as usual.

The event at Apple Park in Cupertino begins at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 6 pm BST. YouTube, Apple.com, and Apple TV will livestream the event, like with prior Apple events. Additionally, Apple Vision Pro users can view on their headset.

Apple September event: iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro

iPhone is September’s Apple event headliner. The iPhone 16 family includes iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro, which will launch this year. The iPhone 16 is projected to launch in 6.1-inch standard and 6.7-inch Plus models at $799 (increased component prices may alter that).

It will have a revamped camera block, the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action button, and up to 7 colors. Apple’s current process would give the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus the A17 Pro processor from the iPhone 15 Pro, although one report suggests a 3-nanometer A18 chip.

The iPhone 16 Pro may receive a stronger A18 Pro chip and larger displays. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg says the iPhone 16 Pro will grow by “a couple tenths of an inch diagonally,” making it the largest iPhone yet. Pro phones may have smaller bezels.

All iPhone 16 models will launch with iOS 18, although it’s unclear if all WWDC 2024 Apple Intelligence capabilities will be available. iOS 18.1’s developer beta offers several writing and image editing tools and basic Safari upgrades; it will likely be released a month or two after iOS 18.

While both regular and Pro iPhones may get an enhanced telephoto lens and 48MP primary resolution, the Pro versions may have a bigger sensor to increase photo quality. The Pro model ultrawide cameras might allow 48MP ProRes photos at the iPhone’s widest 0.5x magnification with a second 48MP sensor.

Some iPhone 16 speculations include larger batteries for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max (all but the iPhone 16 Plus) and a Capture Button on all models to make taking photos/video easier.

Apple typically sells phones 10 days after its launch, so the iPhone 16 models would go on sale September 20. A German blog claims Apple will bump forward the release date by a day, while Bloomberg reports that date. Until further evidence, we’ll support Bloomberg.

Apple September event: Apple Watch 10

The Apple Watch Series 10, often known as the Apple Watch 10 or Apple Watch X, is another product we expect to see at Apple September. Apple employed roman numeral ‘X’ branding on the 10th-gen iPhone, so we’re curious whether Apple Watch will too.

The next-generation Apple Watch’s enhancements over the Series 9 are unknown due to insufficient information. We believe speculations that the Apple Watch 10 will be the largest overhaul in years. A report indicates the watch will be thinner and larger, although it’s unclear how this will affect the Apple Watch band system.

Otherwise, the Apple Watch 10 will have the best Apple Watch features: workout tracking, hundreds of applications, on-wrist communication, safety tools, and more. According to Bloomberg, Apple’s next-generation wearables may detect sleep apnea and hypertension. But legal conflicts with health-tech company Masimo have cast doubt on those features.

The Elec reports that Apple Watch 10 may finally get a battery life improvement. Apple may add low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) technology to the device’s display to boost power efficiency.

Multiple reports imply an Apple Watch Ultra 3 will follow the Ultra 2 this year. However, its upgrades are unknown. If Apple releases a new entry-level watch every two years, the Apple Watch SE 3 may also be announced.

Apple September event: AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3

Fall product events frequently include accessories, and Glowtime is no exception. In addition to the Apple AirPods 4, a new AirPods Pro may be released next year.

After Apple discontinued the AirPods 3 and 2, the AirPods 4 are believed to be its entry-level wireless earphones. A USB-C charging case should improve this version’s fit. Apple may potentially sell two AirPods, one with active noise cancellation like the more expensive one.

If the AirPods Pro 3 ships, improved ANC will be the top feature. A report that the upgraded Pro versions may launch alongside the AirPods 4 at Glowtime, but we think a staggered delivery is more plausible.

Apple September event: AirPods Max 2

December 2023 marked Apple’s AirPods Max’s third birthday. Despite not seeing them at WWDC 2024 on June 10, there’s talk that AirPods Max 2 could debut at Apple’s September event.

We haven’t heard many rumors about Apple’s premium over-ear headphones, although they may be upgraded. AirPods Max may debut in at least one new color and transition to USB-C charging like the Pro 2 did last year.

Despite their popularity, the Sony WH-1000XM5 and new Sonos Ace are excellent AirPods Max alternatives.

Apple September event: iPad mini 7

The iPad mini 7 may be the last Apple September 2024 product. After all, the 2021 September event introduced the iPad mini 6.

The new iPad mini has the largest update gap of the iPad lineup, although we haven’t heard many rumors. After the iPad Air 2024 and iPad Pro 2024 launched a few months ago, the iPad mini may follow.
